Yesterday I cut my right hand quite badly. As usual I was hurrying to ‘get it all done’. I had a cracked glass in the washing up and as I wiped the inside of the glass it snapped and cut deeply into the flesh of the back of my hand. Ouch! And I had so much I ‘needed’ to do, too. I’m hosting a bonfire tomorrow night.
Well, this morning I had to face some new challenges. Showering and drying myself. Doing my hair and makeup. Making the bed. It didn’t matter what I attempted, I was constantly facing another challenge.(Think of all the parables we use , “my right hand man”, “I’d give my right arm”).
But I could listen to my personal development discs! And listening to the first CD on the Conscious Mind I realised something very important. My mind is far more important to my ability to achieve anything than my right hand!
Let me give you an example. I was making myself some porridge for breakfast. First I got out the bowl, then I found the porridge in the pantry, then the milk.. And then I just needed to open the sachets of porridge.. Bugger! How can I tear the sachet open without the porridge tipping all over the sideboard? Hmm.. Okay I can use my teeth… no, I can’t. The packet’s not tearing. I can lay it flat on the cupboard and pull the perforations apart.. Nup, not enough strength in my left hand.
Okay, let’s stay calm here. There must be a way. (You notice I still haven’t asked for help. I really am a stubborn and independent woman) My mind is far more capable than my body, specifically my right hand, right?
Eventually I use the scissors. I manage to cut along the perforations with my left hand. Okay, I can hear you say, but you didn’t use your mind, you used the scissors! Huh! Got you! To this I say, my mind directed me to try the scissors. If that hadn’t worked I would’ve tried something else. Isn’t that one of the main differences between man and animal? Would a gorilla use the scissors? Would a giraffe use the scissors? No. Only man perseveres. And only man uses tools. Humans don’t give up. Gorillas and giraffes go without breakfast!!
So, the lessons here? Number one; you are unstoppable! Nothing will get in your way of achieving what you want to, unless you give up. Number two, when you’re forced to slow down and do one thing at a time without the ’benefit’ of autopilot you begin to enjoy the simplicity of life and you feel more at peace. And lastly, we are never alone and when we ask for help we give others a very special gift. We give them our thanks. Which, after all, is what my life is all about. My family tonight won’t care that the floors aren’t vacuumed and the dishes aren’t dried, they will be here to see me and to enjoy the bonfire.
Now, if I can just work out how to ice those biscuits…
